PhD in biologia dei sistemi - Wageningen (Olanda) - scadenza 24/01/08
General information about the job Job title: PhD Modelling the Dynamics of Biological Networks (M/V) Job number: AT: DPW 07-47 Location: Wageningen Hours per week: 38 Organisation: Wageningen University and Research Centre Job description: Description: One of the six research focal points of Wageningen UR in the coming five years is Systems Biology. In this field, researchers from many disciplines work together: biology, biochemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, bioinformatics and others. They collaborate in ten PhD projects, of which the present project is one. This project aims at the development, numerical implementation, and application of modelling techniques for biological networks, in particular metabolic networks (MN). The emphasis will be on finding generic methods for model building and parameter estimation. As for model building, we focus on the description of the dynamics of MN in terms of balance (flux) and differential equations, based on the metabolic reactions’ stoichiometry and kinetics. The PhD-students must combine expert knowledge and information from the literature and databases. Much attention will be paid to the question how insights from kinetic theory, molecular biology, and statistical network identification (a parallel project) can be integrated in designing reliable models. Real data for Tomato and Arabidopsis will be provided by other WUR groups. As for parameter estimation, the project will deal with developing and testing estimation procedures for the MN-models to be developed. This part of the project will benefit from the long-standing experience in parameter estimation techniques within Biometris. The project will require quite intense communication and cooperation with colleagues within both Biometris and the experimental groups of WUR. Requirements: Further demands: We look for a candidate with a strong background in mathematics, preferably with emphasis on the analysis and numerical treatment of (ordinary) differential equations. Knowledge of genetics and systems biology will be very helpful. The candidate should have a strong interest in the biological processes on the level of the cell. Candidates with a master education that emphasized training in mathematics, physics, biology, or bioinformatics are invited to apply. Field(s) of activity: Conditions of employment: Employment basis: Temporary for specified period , for at the most 38 hour(s) per week , for a period of 1 year with the intension to extend it for another 3 years. Additional conditions of employment: Temporary for specified period, for at the most 38 hour(s) per week, for a period of one year with the intension to extend it for another 3 years. Gross salary per month € 1956,- in the first year rising to € 2502,- per month in the fourth year. Post doc in neurobiologia cellulare - Amsterdam - Scadenza 15/01/08
Post-doc in Neuro-Cell Biology f/m Amsterdam, 1081 HV, (Noord-Holland), 38 hours per week VU University Amsterdam
Job description The synaptic connectivity of neurons in the brain is established and remodeled under the influence of synapse use (activity), previous experience and external modulation by chemical signals. Secretion of neurotransmitters and neuromodulators from presynaptic terminals is a major source of such directive signals, but the impact of presynaptic secretion on connectivity is still poorly understood and heavily debated. The aim of this project is to analyze synaptogenesis and synaptic maintenance in neuronal networks that are synaptically silent and compare this to control networks.
Description of work Two genetic models are available that are synaptically silent: munc18-1- null mutant mice and munc13-1/2 double null mutants. These models were crossed with mice expressing membrane anchored GFP in all neurons. Slices from these mice will be co-cultured with wildtype slices that express different spectral variants of GFP and interactions between pre- and postsynaptic elements will be analyzed in a spinning disc confocal imager. Outgrowing neurons may also be modified by acute expression of genes through viral infection systems. (See references on CNCR-site at Jobs.)
All the optical techniques, equipment, analysis software, viral vectors and mutant mice are available from the start of the project.
Requirements University Graduate We are looking for candidates with a PhD in cellular neuroscience or cell biology and extensive experience with cell culture, optical techniques and a strong motivation to pursue a career in science.

Postdoc in ricerca sul cancro Rotterdam, Paesi Bassi, scadenza 16/5/08
Job description _______________________ The Department of Pathology of the Erasmus MC is located in the Josephine Nefkens building. The research groups in the Department are investigating biochemical, molecular and cell biological properties of different types of human cancers. The Department participates in the Research Schools Molecular Medicine and Medical Genetic Centre. A grant from the Association for International Cancer Research enables the Department to call on candidates for the position of postdoc. Expression of the MN1 oncogene is tightly regulated during development and the gene is not expressed in many tissues. High MN1 expression is associated with poor response to treatment in leukemias with a normal karyotype. In leukemias of the inv (16) type, high MN1 expression is found in all cases. Fusion of MN1 to TEL creates a fusion protein that causes acute myeloid leukemia in man and mice. MN1 is a transcriptional coregulator of nuclear receptors. Expression profiling revealed that MN1 can activate and repress genes and that it influences gene regulation by the retinoic acid receptor. It is our hypothesis that this property is pivotal in the leukomogenic properties of MN1. The mechanism by which MN1 regulates gene expression is the central focus of the project. Of specific interest are the observed effects of MN1 on regulation of gene expression by nuclear receptors. Plan of investigation: 1) Identification of MN1 regulated regions. 2) Determine occupation of MN1 and coactivators and the nature of histone modifications on promoters in vivo by chromatin-immune-precipitation (ChIP). 3)Identification of direct coactivator-MN1 contacts in living cells by bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC)-imaging and fluoresence resonance energy transfer (FRET).
Requirements ___________________________ Doctorate Molecular biologist, experience with ChIP and confocal microscopy is an advantage. Job competencies are: planning and organisation, creativity, written communication and dedication.

..che sogno andare in america...USA...ma ci vuole una grande anzi grandissima dose di coraggio per fare i bagagli ed andare verso il nuovo mondo...lontano da tutti i tuoi cari...per non parlare che ho una terribile paura dell'aereo |
