POSTDOCTORAL POSITION - INCA FUNDING
Development of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors-based therapy of glioblastoma in animal models
Our emerging field of interest is the understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the genesis and progression of glioma. Glioma is the most common and aggressive tumor of the brain and its most malignant form, glioblastoma multiforme, is nowadays virtually not curable. The understanding of the molecular mechanisms of cell cycle inhibitors is essential for the development of successful and rational therapeutic strategies. Our approach is based on a tight collaboration with clinical researchers, chemists, molecular and cellular biologists within a consortium of 5 national partners. In our team, we aim to analyse human biopsies, generate primary cultures of human tumour cells, isolate the stem-cell-like population of patient-derived gliomas and generate mouse models for glioma based on the heterotopical/orthotopical inoculation of human glioma cells in nude mice, to generate tumors.
One postdoctoral position is available to understand mechanisms of action of synthetic cell cycle inhibitors on glioma development as innovative therapeutic. The available project includes in vitro and in vivo (nude mice) investigation of cycline kinase inhibitors on glioblastoma cell proliferation, differentiation, migration/invasion and/or survival associated to neoangiogenesis.
The applicant will have experience in the derivation and culture of neural stem cells and glioma stem cells as well as molecular and cellular neuroscience techniques. Experience with in vitro and in vivo assays of glioma growth is also essential. Expertise in fluorescence imaging as in vivo assays in mice using multiphoton microscopy will be considered as a plus. The applicant should be highly motivated and able to work in a higly dynamic team environment.
The application should include a curriculum vitae including publications, a statement of scientific interests and accomplishments, the names and contact information should be appreciated, and addressed to :

Copio da un'e-mail ricevuta "...VIPS post-doctoral fellowship program in Vienna (www.mfpl.ac.at/vips), for which a new call has just been announced (application deadline 29th February 2012).
This program (funded by the City of Vienna and the Austrian Government) is modeled on the PhD programs found here and elsewhere and aims to provide a more structured approach to the post-doctoral training period.
VIPS fellows receive a competitive salary, with full healthcare coverage. Families with small children also benefit from subsidized access to the on-site kindergarten. Importantly, the working language on campus, including the kindergarten, is English. Vienna serves as headquarters for many international organizations, and non-German speakers generally encounter few problems.
As part of their three year fellowship, VIPS post-docs control their own research budget (currently 14.000 Euro per year) and also receive funds for attending conferences and courses. An important element in the VIPS program is mentoring, including training and support in grant writing, applying for faculty positions and lab management.
Why Vienna? Vienna has been consistently rated one of the most livable cities in the world, and the the Vienna Biocenter campus with its four constituent institutes (IMP, IMBA, GMI and MFPL) has a reputation as a center of excellence in biomedical research. A recent addition to the campus are the campus support facilities (http://www.csf.ac.at), which provide access to state-of-the-art technologies (such as large-scale protein expression and crystallization, super-resolution microscopy, etc) to all institutes on campus, including MFPL." |

Post doctoral position in Cancer Stem Cell Signaling and Epigenetics at INGM Istituto Nazionale di Genetica Molecolare (INGM) is a growing research institute that focuses on molecular medicine, tumor associated infectious diseases and RNA biology. Based within the campus of the IRCCS Ospedale Maggiore of Milan, it provides a dynamic and highly interactive research environment strongly connected with the clinic and translational medicine. Description A 3-year post-doctoral position is available starting from September 2012 in the group of Dr. Alessio Zippo at INGM in Milan, Italy. Our newly established team investigates the epigenetic mechanisms that dictate the establishment and the maintenance of stem cell identity. We aim to dissect the molecular mechanisms through which transcription factors mediate the epigenetic responses to environmental signaling in Embryonic and Cancer Stem Cells. We are seeking highly motivated candidates to investigate epigenetic mechanisms controlling the formation of mammary Cancer Stem Cells using molecular biology/biochemistry technologies and in vivo time-lapse imaging. Qualifications We welcome candidates holding (or about to obtain) a PhD degree with a strong background in cell and molecular biology who wish to join a dynamic and interactive team. Previous experience in ChIP and ChIP-seq technology and/or stem cell biology will be an advantage but is not essential. Please apply by sending a letter of motivation describing your interest in this research and past research experiences, a curriculum vitae and names of at least two referees to: Dr. Alessio Zippo National Institute of Molecular Genetic (INGM) Via Francesco Sforza 35 20122 Milan, Italy E-Mail: zippo@ingm.org For further informations, please visit the INGM website: www.ingm.org |
