perchè non fai un giro sulla rete, guardando i lab che ti piacciono? Quando ne hai trovato uno, contatta direttamente il PI (principal Investigator) del lab e chiedi per posizioni disponibili. A volte le offerte di lavoro le trovi direttamente nelle loro pagine web del lab, oppure dell'università cui afferiscono. oppure puoi anche guardare su nature jobs e cell jobs (offerte di lavoro postate su apposite pagine delle note riviste internazionali).
Io ho cercato i principali lab che mi interessavano, un pò li conoscevo dai loro lavori/pubblicazioni, un pò li ho scovaTI su internet, ho contattato i PI e alla fine ho ricevuto varie proposte di interview. Ora lavoro in francia come postdoc.

PhD position in Sensory Physiology
A PhD position starting September 2010 is available at the Montpellier Institute for Neuroscience (U583 INSERM) in the team Pathophysiology and Therapy of Vestibular Deficits. The PhD program will be funded by a CIFRE grant shared by the ANRT (Association Nationale Recherche et Technologie) and Sensorion Pharmaceutical, a biotechnology company recently created and housed at the Montpellier Institute for Neuroscience.
Sensorion develops novel therapeutic strategies to cure vestibular deficits using in vitro strategies (cellular electrophysiology; molecular biology) and in vivo approaches (animal models of human pathologies; behavioral testing on rodents).
Applicant will integrate a neuroscience team that assesses the restorative properties of vestibular neuronal network in mammals.
Experience in cell culture, molecular biology and patch-clamp is welcome.

Ciao ragazzi una domanda: ma borse di studio per postdoc negli stati uniti ce ne sono? Cioè conoscete enti che danno POSTDOC fellowship per autofinanziarsi gli studi in un qualsiasi lab di un qualsiasi stato degli usa? Io conosco l'HFSPO (Human Frontier Science Programme Organization) e l'EMBO (che in casi particolari finanzia anche fuori dall'europa). Voi ne conoscete altre?

| Generalmente sono i singoli laboratori a finanziare i postdoc. Quando scrivi una domanda di finanziamento metti nel budget il salario del postdoc. Le borse da postdoc sono un po' più rare ma esistono (ad es. ci sono le borse Marie Curie che in alcuni casi speciali puoi anche usare fuori dall'EU). |

ok, grazie. Sì è vero in effetti in genere sono i singoli lab a finanziarti, però in alcuni casi ti chiedono anche se hai la possibilità di portarti una borsa di studio. Io conosco la HFSPO che finanzia numerose borse di studio in Europa e in USA, poi l'EMBO (fuori europa solo in casi eccezionali) e poi c'è la harvard-armenise. Volevo sapere se ce ne sono altre perchè vorrei fare un secondo postdoc, ma negli usa (e quindi valutare anche la possibilità di trovarmi un autofinanziamento pur di entrare nel lab che mi piace e di cui sono "innamorato").

Ciao ragazzi,
volevo porre solamente una domanda che a molti magari potrebbe essere banale.
Io attualmente ho 31 anni ho lavorato in Italia come biologa in un laboratorio privato occupandomi di genetica molecolare, ora a causa della "CRISI", dopo la cassa integrazione ho deciso di cercare altro altrove! Chiaramente non mi trovo più in Italia e sono ritornata in Spagna. Io, sinceramente non sono interessata a fare un dottorato ma piuttosto vorrei lavorare in un laboratorio come biologo o magari anche nell´ambito vegetale.
Come posso muovermi??

| beh, prova a cercare e contattare i PI (principal Investigator) dei lab che ti interessano o prova a guardare gli annunci su nature jobs, Cell jobs ecc... Magari guarda anche i siti delle varie aziende/università/istituti di ricerca e cerca le open positions disponibili... |

PHD STUDENT AND POSTDOC POSITIONS AVAILABLE LABORATORY OF PROF. LUCA SCORRANO, UNIVERSITY OF GENEVA (SWITZERLAND)
Several positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Luca Scorrano, Dept. of Cell Physiology and Metabolism, University of Geneva Medical School (Geneva, Switzerland).
• 1 PhD student, to develop genetic tools aimed at the study super-resolution novel approaches for real time imaging of mitochondrial subcompartments
• 1 Postdoctoral fellow, to perform super-resolution imaging of mitochondrial subcompartments in cell life and death (PD1)
• 1 Postdoctoral fellow, to study at the biochemical and functional levels components of the interface between mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum (PD2)
• 1 Postdoctoral fellow, to study a mouse model of Fis1 conditional ablation (PD3) Our laboratory integrates genetics, advanced imaging, electron tomography, biochemistry, mitochondrial physiology to unravel the role of mitochondria-shaping proteins in cell death (see Cipolat et al., Cell 2006; Frezza et al., Cell 2006; Cereghetti et al., PNAS 2008, CDD 2010), in the interplay between mitochondria and other organelles like the endoplasmic reticulum (see Brito&Scorrano, Nature 2008; Cerqua et al., EMBO Rep. 2010), and in mammalian development.
Requirements
PhD Student: excellent University grades. Basic knowledge of molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, imaging is not required, but would be an asset. Postdoctoral fellows. Common to all positions. PhD in a relevant subject. At least one first author paper in a high quality, international peer reviewed Journal. Fluency in English, both spoken and written. Commitment to a career in Science. For PD1, extensive experience in imaging is required. For PD2 and 3, experience in cell biology and or protein biochemistry is a plus. For PD3, experience with mouse biology is a plus
Salary, starting date and tenure of the positions
The positions are funded by the Swiss National Fund or by the State of Geneva. PhD fellowships are for four years. Postdoctoral contracts for three years. Salary of the PhD student is in the range 40800-44800 CHF/year according to SNF salary scale. Postdoctoral salaries vary according to the experience of the fellow, but are in the range of 65 to 75000CHF/year. The successful Applicants will join a state of the art lab of 4 postdocs, 4 PhD students, one technician. Postdocs will be encouraged to apply to prestigious international fellowships (EMBO; FEBS, Marie Curie, HFSP). Funds are available from November the 1st, 2010.

Dritta necessaria dai "francesi" di MoLab - che sostanzialmente è una neppure troppo elegante perifrasi per dire chick80.
Tralasciando, non che non rientri poi nelle mie considerazioni, lo spessore e la caratura del laboratorio in sé, meglio un internato con annessa tesi all'Institut Pasteur o all'Ecole Normale Superieure di Paris?
Dovrei usarlo come biglietto da visita per tentare di trovare un PhD oversea  tra 1.5 anni |

Mi parlano tutti bene del Pasteur... non conosco nessuno che sia andato alla Normale ma è sicuramente molto prestigiosa. |

POSTDOC in (epi)Genetica della Drosophila a Parigi.
One post-doctoral position is open to work on RNA silencing in the laboratory of Drosophila Genetics and Epigenetics at the Institut Pasteur/CNRS. The position is funded by an ANR grant and is available for 3 years, starting from March 1st 2011. Our main interest is the characterization of the role of small RNAs in chromatin dynamics and epigenetic transmission of information in Drosophila melanogaster. We demonstrated a function of endogenous siRNAs in the modulation of heterochromatin silencing in somatic tissues (Fagegaltier et al, 2009, PNAS). We are now exploring the nuclear siRNA pathway as well as crosstalk with other pathways involving piRNAs, miRNAs and viral siRNAs. Using state-of-art tools for Drosophila genetics, genome-wide approaches and deep-sequencing technologies, we will characterize model loci in heterochromatin regions and analyze how they are populated by small RNAs. The project involves collaborations with geneticists and bioinformaticians. We seek for a motivated and open-minded researcher with a solid background in Drosophila genetics and molecular biology. Experience in virology and/or NGS data analysis would be appreciated. |

INTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL/POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAM
The Inserm UMR 643/ITUN [1] in Nantes (France) is launching its
International doctoral/postdoctoral Program by opening in 2011 a
competitive call for one POSTDOCTORAL fellowship. This PROGREFFE
FOUNDATION PROGRAM [2] aims to recruit highly-motivated and successful
Master students or postdoc researchers of any nationality. The PhD or
postdoc position will cover respectively three or two years of research
activity and training in a strong research environment, offering a
competitive salary depending on qualifications and previous training.
Participations to local seminars and national as well as international
meetings will be covered. Further funding for additional years from
other sources may be available.
APPLICANTS are asked to choose only one project from the ones proposed.
5 teams of the Institute propose one project. The scientific advisory
board of the institute will select up to three candidates that will be
interviewed on site for final selection.
Scientific Research at the ITUN Institute is organized in 6 research
teams [3], with strong interfaces with clinical departments. Topics span
many areas of research related to Transplantation, including Molecular &
Cell Biology, Immunology, Neuroscience, Infectious Diseases,
Regenerative Medicine Stem Cells, Gene Therapy, and Biostatistics.
The ITUN comprises the INSERM research unit UMR 643 (the French National
Institute for Health and Biomedical Research / Nantes University) and
the clinical transplantation unit of Nantes University Hospital that
performs among the highest number of kidney and pancreas
transplantations in Europe. The INSERM unit UMR 643 comprises
laboratories and animal facilities (~3,000 m2). Clinical and research
areas as well as meeting and teaching rooms are housed in the same
building, which is located within the Nantes University Hospital. The
institute is part of a local research institute (IFR 26) bringing
together several other INSERM units and houses more than 750 faculty
staff with several core facilities (e.g. confocal imaging, DNA
microarrays, production of viral gene vectors). The INSERM unit UMR 643
is presently staffed by 130 people organized into 6 teams and houses
several core facilities (Q-PCR, high-speed cell sorting, microsurgery,
protein and antibody purification, rat transgenesis).
The city of Nantes [4] offers an active cultural environment, and is
conveniently located within 45 min drive (or train) from some strikingly
beautiful sea resorts located on the West Coast and 2 hours train from
Paris.
The association «Chercheurs Etrangers à Nantes [5]» will provide
help to settle down smoothly in Nantes. Accomodation (flat) at the
"Maison des Chercheurs Etrangers" may be booked for a period of up to 6
months so that the selected (foreign) candidate can take his/her time to
look for a permanent accommodation and to ensure that he or she settles
in well at a local level.

completed their Ph.D. or M.D. between 2006 and Sept 2011.

contract offer.

Team 1: Role of Langerin+ cells in a mucosal model of primary MCMV
infection.
Team 2 : Role of Aire in the generation and function of CD8 regulatory T
cells.
Team 4: Mechanisms and induction of liver tolerance in

Team 5: Identification of seric factors involved in idiopathic nephrotic
syndrome.
Team 6: Neuroimmune signaling in neuron survival and axonal outgrowth.
