In the last two decades, several predictive studies have
used lattices,13–15 such as the simple square or cubic lattices,
16–18 the 210 lattice,19 the cubo-octahedral lattice,
20 the tetrahedral lattice,21 the fcc lattice.22,23 Hierarchical
approaches for global optimization of off-lattice
simplified chains and off-lattice models have also been
applied.24–26 In this study, we present a systematic analysis
of different lattices, to define their utility in protein
folding prediction comparing them in terms of their
complexity and accuracy. We have attempted to establish
which lattices are able to reproduce accurate protein
structures, while being computationally inexpensive.
